Abstract

Aim. To study karyotypic and allozyme variation in biotypes of triploid silver crucian carp Carassius gibelio, Bloch, 1782 of Ukrainian fauna. Methods. Cytogenetic analysis of kidney cells and biochemical gene marking using proteins and enzymes of blood and muscle fibers. Results. Variability of silver crucian carp was revealed at the chromosome level. These data together with the results of electrophoretic studies may prove the existence of several clonal lines, namely biotypes C. gibelio-1 and C. gibelio-2 with the number of chromosomes in somatic cells 156 and 158, respectively. Conclusions. Obtained results allow to conclude about the possibility of polyphyletic origin of silver crucian carp, and significant chromosomal plasticity of triploid biotypes of this species.
