Анотація

У статті коротко розглянуто передісторію та історію створення Інституту молекулярної біології і генетики НАН України (ІМБГ), організованого у липні 1973 р., зокрема стан і тенденції розвитку генетики і молекулярної біології в Україні у 1960-1970-х рр. і далі в ІМБГ до 2020-х рр. Проаналізовано деякі події, що передували створенню ІМБГ, етапи формування нових наукових напрямів, створення наукових відділів і лабораторій, головні наукові здобутки і досягнення за 50 років існування інституту. Особливу увагу приділено різним етапам становлення і розвитку наукових підрозділів, досягненням окремих видатних учених інституту, ролі ІМБГ у розвиткові молекулярної біології, генетики і біотехнологій.
